East Rutherford Tuesday 3rd April 2012 - show 8

To get from Washington DC to The Meadowlands Sports Complex you need to travel along the New Jersey Turnpike for 224 miles. So far about 2850 miles in total.

Tonight an introduction from the man himself

“Good evening, New Jersey!. It’s great to be home. We missed you. Oh, we need you. Oh yes, oh yes. We opened this building 30 years ago, I guess, back when it was named after a human being. Who can believe it? They used to do that. …Tonight we’re here with old friends and with new friends to look out into old faces and new faces and tell you that the mission of the mighty E Street Band remains the same. …We’re going to be the joyous power of music and shoot it straight into your heart. We want to wake you up and shake you up and take you to higher ground and we need you to take us there. We’re here to deliver the news with a beat, with a beat, with a beat.”
“Of course, we’ve got a story to tell, as usual. It’s a story about yesterday and tonight and hopefully tomorrow. It’s a story about hellos and goodbyes, the things that leave and the things that remain, so that’s a lot of ground to cover, so we better get started.”  - Bruce Springsteen 4/3/12

I've found another little quote from a review of the show North Jersey.Com it's only a sentence but doesn't this just say it all?

The audience at a Bruce show ... is a unique one: because of the bonding between Springsteen and his fans, and maybe even more because of the bonding of fans with each other.

The word on the street is that the set list was nothing to get excited about - murmurings of the second night rule again.  Why the dissatisfaction?  Well my guess would be that there's only one premier.  For what it's worth I reckon if this had been the first show of the tour everyone would have been pretty happy with it.  It's just that we are greedy and expect something new every night.

It perhaps wouldn't be my first choice for an ideal set but it's OK.

Just a reminder that I have decided to keep the set list from the first show and the one from the latest show to see how it has evolved.  There are more stats for anyone interested.  Click on the Wrecking Ball Tour Spreadsheet above.  There is a small spreadsheet here with a link to the full thing.

This is my first effort at finding an appropriate YouTube clip so we have some enthusiastic audience participation. Apologies for that. If I find something better I'll replace it later.

And with even more apologies I have to say that I'm not sure about the tighter jeans. They just look too small to me. The waistcoat looks a little snug too! Maybe it's just filmed from a bad angle.
