The review here is not quite so over-the-top as some :-
All in all, it was a fascinating, self-defining show, with lots of core songs from either the pivotal Darkness On The Edge Of Town or Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J., the album that introduced him to the world, plus a lot of other crucial ones, often creatively re-arranged, like "The River," replete with a ghostly (there's that word again) wordless vocal, an emphatic, electric "Atlantic City" and the operatic crowd pleaser "Jungleland." It was a show about who he is, and how the work you do, and the people you love - and lose - make you who you are.
Reading the Backstreets reviews I think night 1 was probably the better of the two nights but sounds like The River on night 2 was something special.
"The River," played for a woman's husband in Afghanistan, besides sounding incredible (and a special shout-out to Steven's acoustic guitar and harmony vocal throughout), was an impressive use of the in-house video system to focus on the woman who had requested it and her reaction to the performance. Watching her eyes, imagining what might be going through her head about her husband overseas, was real theater.
Here are both the Philly set lists, together with the two lists from earlier in the tour. I thought it might be interesting to compare all four nights.
