Oakland 30th November 2012 - show 83

Oakland... (is) a predominantly working-class city; it is forever in the shadow of chic San Francisco. However, as the City by the Bay has become crowded and expensive in the past few years, Oakland has experienced a rush of new residents and businesses.

So to the reviews -  MercuryNews.com  says:-

Springsteen was joyful to the point of near-giddiness. The 63-year-old star shook hands, let fans strum his guitar, mugged with his E Street Band members and exuded more energy than most artists half his age -- all of which, I realize, are trademarks of his live show. Yet, the way he conducted himself seemed particularly genuine and natural on this night. He acted like he was having the time of his life as he performed before the capacity crowd.

This perfectly illustrates one of Bruce's greatest talents - the ability to make almost every show seem special. This reviewer obviously feels there was something out of the ordinary at this show, but doesn't Bruce make every audience feel that he is bringing something extra to their show and only their show?

Stan Goldstein tells us that Bruce was almost dropped during Hungry Heart !  and this blogger says that Bruce didn't bother to sing at all :-

During “Hungry Heart” Bruce didn’t even bother singing, just barked the “C’mons!” and the “Sing it!” between verses.

The full blog post is a good read. I prefer these personal stories which often include observations that aren't in the 'professional' reviews. This writer tells us about the demographic of the audience and the cost of the parking among other things.

The opening description made me chuckle - peppy hexagenerian!

American legend and extraordinarily peppy hexagenerian, Springsteen and his beloved E Street Band have been plying their brass-heavy rock and roll since the ‘70s.

And ... the usual paragraph telling us just how amazing our man is.

If you’ve never seen the Boss play live you must know this: he turns himself inside out onstage. The way he sings, plays, dances, runs around the audience, laughs, slows it down  – it’s like watching the entire range of human emotion performed with a backing brass section.
